What is Loom Beading?
Loom beading is a combination of weaving and beading. The craft requires a special tool called a bead loom that evenly spaces the beads. A bead loom is similar to a regular loom. However, it is much smaller.
Interesting Facts about Bead Looms
Although bead looms are very simple tools, they have a long history. For years, they have been an integral part of Native American culture.
- Glass beads first came into production during the 14th century.
- Bead looms were invented by Native American women.
- Modern bead looms often use a comb or spring to hold the thread in place.
- Most bead looms are designed for tabletop use. Yet, some are designed for laptop use.
- The first beads were made from stones, pearls, shells, and seeds.
