HOW TO MAKE A BALLOON FLOWER WITH 10 VIDEO TUTORIALS

What You Will Need to Make a Balloon Flower

You do not need many supplies to make balloon flowers. The only things you really need are balloons. But you do not want any average balloon.

High-quality Balloons

You will want high-quality balloons that were designed to be twisted. Cheap balloons are thin, and they cannot withstand the stress put on them. This twisting will cause them to pop.

Balloon Pump

You do not need a balloon pump. But it will make it easier to blow up the balloons. If you are only making one flower here and there, you may want to invest in a dual-action hand pump.

If you are wanting to make a lot of balloon flowers or animals, you will probably want to buy a floor pump or electric balloon pump.

How to Make a Balloon Flower

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making a Balloon Flower:

1. Blow up the balloon for the petals.

The first step is to inflate the coloured balloon you will want to use for the petals. Inflate the balloon part way, leaving a 1-2” tail.  This will make the balloon easy to work with without popping. Tie a knot in the end.

2. Blow up the balloon for the stem.

Next, inflate a green balloon for the stem. Do not blow it up all the way. Instead, leave about a 1 ½” tail. Tie a knot in the end.

3. Make the Petals

Fold the petal balloon in half and tie the ends together. On the opposite end, make a crease. Twist the top half.

This will create two bubbles. It will look like you tied two long balloons together.

Hold the two bubbles together using both hands. You will be creating 3 segments of 2 bubbles. Take the first 1/3 and twist a few times. Now take the final 1/3 and twist a few times.

Fold the balloon to form an S. Hold the right side of the S with your dominant hand. With the other hand, push the left side of the S towards your dominant hand.

This will bring all the centres together. Hold the creases together with your thumb and forefinger. You should now have 6 petals. Hold 3 petals in one hand, and 3 in your other hand. Make several twists down the middle.

4. Complete the Stem.

Move the air towards the end of the balloon that does not have a knot. Pinch a 1-2” segment at the end of the balloon and twist.

This will create the centre of the flower. Separate 2 of the petals and place the centre of the flower in the middle of the petals.

Turn the flower over. Create a 1” segment underneath the petals. Twist several times.

Fold the remaining part of the stem into 3 equal segments. Hold it halfway down and twist together. Twist several times. This will make the leaves and finish the flower.
