Facts about Denim Jackets

Most people have owned at least one denim jacket during their lifetime. Denim jackets are stylish and durable. You have probably owned one. If you love a good denim jacket, here are a few fun facts you may want to know.

  1. The denim jacket was invented in 1880 by Levi Strauss. This was 10 years after he developed the first pair of denim jeans.
  2. Denim jackets were originally designed to be an alternative to formal suit jackets.
  3. “Washed” denim jackets are less likely to shrink than “raw” denim jackets.
  4. It was not until the 1970s that denim jackets became a mainstay garment.
  5. Properly cared for denim fabric can last for decades.

Denim Sewing Machine Needles

Have you tried sewing denim only to find the needle constantly breaks? This is because denim is a thick fabric that requires a special needle. Denim requires a speciality needle. When sewing lightweight denim, you can use a 90/14 needle. When sewing heavyweight denim, use a size 100/16.
