HOW TO MAKE BALLOON ANIMALS

The dog balloon is one of the most common balloon animals. And it is one of the easiest to make. It is the perfect first project. Once you have mastered the dog, you can graduate to bigger and more elaborate animal balloon sculptures. And by making the body a little longer, you can make a dachshund.

What You Will Need to Make a Balloon Dog

Balloon animals do not require many supplies. But there are a couple of things you will need to make the process easier for you.

You do not want cheap everyday balloons. These balloons were not designed to be twisted and easily pop. Instead, buy high-quality twisting balloons. These balloons are thicker and can handle the stress created by twisting. They may still pop on occasion, but not like average everyday balloons.

A balloon pump is not necessary, but it will make inflating the balloons a lot easier. If you are only planning on making a few animals from time to time, buy a dual-action hand pump.

If you are wanting to master the craft and make a hobby out of it, you will probably want to invest in a floor pump.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Making a Balloon Dog:

Steps on how to make balloon animals

1. Blow up the balloon.

The first step is to inflate the balloon and tie a knot in the end. You do not want to inflate the balloon all the way. Leave about 1 to 2 inches of the balloon uninflated. This gives you the ability to twist the balloon easily.

If the balloon is completely inflated, it will be under too much pressure and will likely pop

2. Make the head/snout.

You will want to make the head on the end where you tied off the balloon. The tie will be the dog’s nose. To make the head, hold the tied end in your non-dominant hand. Pinch the balloon in the area where you want the neck. The size will depend on the length of the balloon.

You will want to be able to create 10 equal-sized segments out of the balloon. Use your other hand to twist the balloon several times. Do not let go of the balloon, or it will come undone.

3. Make the ears.

Pinch and twist another segment next to the head. Make it about the same size as the first segment. Make another segment the same size as the second.

Now fold the second and third segments together and lock them together by twisting the two segments on top of the head. Make sure you twist them several times, so they stay together.

4. Make the neck and front legs.

Create three more segments. Make them all the same size as the previous segments. Fold the last two segments together and twist them several times. The last two segments will create the front legs.

If you want to make a dachshund balloon animal, make the first segment in this step longer than all the other segments.

5. Make the body, back legs and tail.

Create three more segments. Make them all the same size as the previous segments. Fold the last two segments together and twist them several times. The last two segments will create the back legs. The remainder of the balloon will be the tail.

Now that you know how to make a balloon dog, try your hand at a flower, monkey or a butterfly. Before you know it, you will be able to impress your friends with intricate balloon designs.
